Burns night in Dornoch 2020

Join us in Dornoch to celebrate Robert Burns’ Birthday!

From traditional ballads to humorous poems, Robert Burns composed some of the world’s most recognisable lines of poetry and song. His birthday is celebrated across the world every January 25th, with celebrations which often include Haggis, whisky and music!

Get involved in this very Scottish tradition this year by attending one of our local Burns celebrations.

Timespan Burns Supper

On the 25th January from 7pm- 10pm, the Friends of Timespan host their annual Burns Supper including a traditional, piped-in address to the haggis, a delicious and generous plate of home-made haggis, neeps and tatties (vege option included), a very special performance from Made in Helmsdale Choir and Joan & George’s brain teaser quiz. All Welcome! £9.50 includes delicious supper, quiz and choir performance

Dornoch Heritage Society Burns Night Supper

Friday 24th January. 7.30pm. Join the Dornoch Hertaige Sociiety to celebrate Burns night with an evening of light entertainent and good food. Tickets are £17.50. Email Peter Wild for more infomration: thewildmeadows@yahoo.co.uk

 

Burns Lunch at the Burghfield Hotel

On the 24th January form 12pm, enjoy a Burns lunch at the Burghfield Hotel ; 3 courses for just £13.50 per person. The set menu consists of Cock-a- Leekie soup, Roast saddle of Lamb stuffed with homemade Haggis, and bramble mousse with deep fried icecream for pudding. What’s on in Dornoch: January 2020

Although January is generally a quieter month after the Christmas and Hogmanay celebrations, it is still packed full of fantastic events taking place in and around Dornoch; Burns Night Celebrations, cinema, snowdrop festival, 89's night, craft workshops and afternoon tea are among the huge range of activities taking place this month.

Your summer holiday in Dornoch 2020

We're all going on a (Dornoch) Summer Holiday!

We are now in 2020 and on a dark afternoon in January, it is time to look forward to long summer nights and plan your trip to Dornoch. Here are just some of the activities you can enjoy in Dornoch this summer.

Dornoch Pipe Band

Every Saturday night during the summer you can watch the Pipe Band Parades (followed by highland dancing display) in the Square at 8pm.

Community Markets

The ever popular Community Markets take place on the Cathedral green throughout the summer months. Community Market days for 2020 are Wednesdays 13th & 27th May, 10th & 24th June, 8th & 22nd July, 12th & 26th August and 9th September. The markets run from 9:30 am to 1 pm on the Cathedral Green. Come and browse up to 30 stalls with homegrown produce, plants, arts & crafts, baking, artisan bread, cheese, meat, local Rapeseed Oil,  handmade cosmetics,  jewellery, gifts & clothing.

Sutherland County Show

This year the County Show is to be held on Dornoch Links on the 25th July. The Show is a spectacle with a whole range of attractions and entertainments for the whole family. The heart of the Show is the Livestock Section which showcases the excellent cattle, sheep, goats, horses and ponies from across the Highlands. A Food Fair, Fun Fair, dog show, vintage vehicle exhibition, terrier racing, pipe band, children’s races, horses and ponies, flower show and spectacular main ring events combine to make a memorable day which is rounded off with the marquee dance.

Dornoch Highland Gathering

The Dornoch Highland Gathering will take place this year on Friday 2nd August. It is a day that locals look forward to all year, where everyone can have fun. Visitors are very welcome. Come and enjoy the competitions for piping, Highland dancing, tossing the caber, putting the ball and throwing the hammer. Watch, or take part in, the track & field events of running, cycling, long jump and high jump. With fairground attractions, stalls and refreshments, children’s races and mini Highland games, this is a day out for all the family.

Dornoch Festival Week

Dornoch Festival Week has a packed programme of family activities including sandcastle competition, children’s fancy dress, children’s sports, family quiz night, car treasure hunt, ceilidh tea dance, pipe band parade, bingo, 5 -a -side football, golf competitions, films, and a teddy bear’s picnic!
