So what’s a Loony Dook?!

Dornoch Loony Dook. Dornoch Beach Car Park. Wednesday 1st January. 12.15 for 12.3o splash.

The Loony Dook, is a traditional Scottish event which takes place each New Year's day. People gather together on beaches around Scotland and dive into the freezing water! What an invigorating way to bring in the New Year!!! The name "Loony Dook" is a combination of "Loony" (Crazy!!!) and "Dook", a Scots term meaning "dip" or "bathe".

Join us in Dornoch this New Year's Day at 12.15 for a 12.30 splash! If you don't fancy joining in yourself then come and watch the brave souls taking part! There is soup and porridge available to keep warm!

Thanks to East Sutherland Rescue Association for their support in running this event.

Royal Dornoch voted 2nd in the World’s Top 100 Golf Courses

Golfscape have voted the Royal Dornoch Golf Club as 2nd in the World’s Top 100 Golf Courses, 2019.

The ranking features only the top golf courses worldwide that are unique, memorable and luxurious.

They describe the Royal Dornoch as:

" a spellbinding golf club and many golfers from all over the world make the pilgrimage to the natural links at some point in their lives. It’s wild, isolated, and at the same time, absolutely beautiful. There is also a blaze of color in early summer when the gorse is in flower. Raised or sloping greens are a characteristic of the Championship Course, as well as elevated tees so the target is well presented although rarely easy to reach."

Golf was first played on the Dornoch links nearly 400 years ago and has been an integral part of the life and economy of the town ever since. A visit to the Golf Club, whether to play or just enjoy the food and stunning views, is a unique experience that combines high quality produce and service with a relaxed and friendly environment.
