Autumn brings beautiful weather to the Highlands, misty mornings and long sunny afternoons. We look forward to welcoming you to Dornoch soon to soak up the beautiful autumnal weather!

1.Whisky

The Dornoch is Whisky Festival is one of the highlights of the Dornoch calendar. This year it takes place from Friday the 25th until Monday 28th October. Tickets are on sale now so don't miss out on some fantastic whisky related events throughout the town.

Lovers of single malts or those keen to learn about Scotland’s national drink can visit 4 famous distilleries within just a few miles of Dornoch. Clynelish, Balblair, Glenmorangie and Dalmore are all close by so there is every opportunity to raise a glass to your holiday in Scotland.

2. History and Heritage

The Highlands of Scotland are well known for their rich history and heritage. Discover all about the history of the Dornoch area- and the whole of the Northern Highlands- during your next trip. There are historical sites, castles, museums and tours galore! We have come up with ten of our favourite historical ‘things to do’ in the area, take a look at our list here.

3. Links House

Take part in one of Link's house's bespoke experiences. They will tailor every aspect of your bespoke itinerary whether country sports such as shooting, stalking and fishing, or guided cycling and hiking across the Highlands.

4. Beaches

The Northern Highlands has a huge array of beaches waiting to be explored: from the craggy and stony to miles of golden sands or small coves with white sand and turquoise seas- there are so many to choose from and they are all equally special in their own way. Of course our favourite beach is our very own award winning Dornoch beach with a very close second place being our neighbour Embo…… but as there are so many other glorious beaches to visit whilst you are visiting Dornoch, we thought we would make a top ten list of our favourites! This is by no means an exhaustive list but is a good place to start if you are looking for plenty of time on the beach during your holiday.

5. Go Wild Highlands

Based in Lairg in East Sutherland, Go Wild Highlands is a small, family-run company running open canoe trips down the Kyle of Sutherland and other Sutherland locations. This slow-moving, easy river with its narrow creeks and wooded islands is ideal for the beginner or anyone looking for a relaxed adventure rich in wildlife, scenery and history.

6. Golf

Golf in Scotland – obviously. Links golf in the Scottish highlands – Royal Dornoch, obviously. And to enrich your visit, play our neighbouring courses, all close by and with their own challenges. All of these friendly courses welcome players of all standards.

8. Walking

No holiday in Scotland would be complete without a walk to enjoy our scenery and wildlife. You can do it all from Dornoch – woodland walks, hill walking or a stroll along our beautiful beaches each one building lasting memories you’ll treasure.

9. Aspen Spa

Take some time out and relax with a luxury spa or beauty treatment. Specialist golf massage for those exploring the fantastic local courses. Gifts, beauty and spa products also available in spa shop.

10. North Coast 500
