Dornoch Highland Games

The Dornoch Highland Gathering

The Dornoch Highland Gathering takes place on Friday 2nd August 2019 in the Meadows Park.  It is a firm favourite in the Dornoch calender and is a fantastic day out for the whole family. It is a traditional and friendly Highland Gathering with piping, Highland dancing, Dornoch Pipe Band and local events including the iconic caber tossing.

The Games have been held every year since 1887, bar the war years and one unfortunate rainy day. It is a day that locals look forward to all year, where everyone can have fun. Visitors are very welcome.

Come and enjoy the competitions for  piping, Highland dancing, tossing the caber, putting the ball and throwing the hammer. Watch, or take part in, the track & field events of running, cycling, long jump and high jump. See the different techniques used to  “Tilt the Bucket”!

With fairground attractions, stalls and refreshments, children’s races and mini Highland games, this is a day out for all the family.

Dornoch Pipe Band

If you want to make your holiday rich with truely Scottish experiences, come to see the Dornoch Pipe Band play.  The band play Saturday evenings at 8pm throughout the Summer. It is magical to see them marching through the centre of the town playing traditional Scottish songs. Afterwards there is a dance display with dancers dressed in traditional Scottish dress dancing to the pipers.

The first parade of the season is Saturday 25th May. The last parade of the season is in early September when the lone piper plays on the floodlit battlements of the Castle Hotel.
